Nokia N8 Soon To Get A Shiny Pink Exterior!

According to official Nokia Conversations blog, the Nokia N8 family will soon get the Pink variant which is expected to be available in selected markets end of this quarter.

From the hardware point of view it is pretty much the same phone equipped 12-megapixel camera capable to process HD that we all love but with a shiny new outside and Symbian Anna inside.

Sports Tracker Gets Twitter Support,
Two New Languages & Numerous Bug Fixes

As you may have already know, in order to re-establish itself as the premier manufacturer of stylish and highly-functional handsets, Nokia has recently upgraded its visual identity with the new 'Pure' typeface by Dalton Maag and here are two interesting videos about new company’s visual identity.

Nokia's existing font family was dominating its visual identity with its strong personality. This made it a difficult typeface to work with in a wider brand perspective, even though its condensed character width allowed for a good character count, and its high contrast meant it was easy to convert to pixels on older devices. Nokia Plans To Reduce Its Global Workforce
By About 4,000 Employees By The End Of 2012

To deliver on its new strategy, Nokia today announced plans to align its global workforce and consolidate site operations.

Nokia and Accenture today announced plans for a strategic collaboration in which Nokia would outsource its Symbian software activities and transition about 3,000 employees to Accenture.

The Finnish Mobile Phone Giant Posts
Stronger Than Expected Quarterly Profits

As expected, The Finnish mobile phone giant has released its financial results, and announced that its first-quarter revenues rose by 9% compared to the previous year to EUR10.4 billion (US$15 billion), although it was boosted by currency changes.

Net profit was down slightly at EUR344 million (US$499 million), compared to EUR349 million a year earlier. The result substantially beat analysts' expectations for a net profit of EUR287 million.

Nokia Will Continue To Develop Symbian
And Would Support It At Least Until 2014

Nokia Australia managing director Chris Carr said that company is committed to releasing Symbian-based phones in 2011 and 2012 and said that Nokia will support new Symbian phones on the market for two years after release.

Mr Carr said that Nokia would not be tying itself exclusively to Microsoft, Symbian was far from dead, research and development was progressing, and Nokia was committed to producing Symbian and Windows 7 Phone devices through to 2012.

Nokia's Ovi Store Hits 5 Million Downloads Per Day As Users Enjoy New Symbian Devices And Apps

Nokia today announced that its Ovi Store has grown by nearly eight times over the last year and now reaches up to 5 million downloads per day, propelled by the latest Symbian devices - the Nokia N8, Nokia C6-01, Nokia C7 and Nokia E7 - which account for about 15 percent of the daily downloads.

Increased demand for apps from the approximate 200-million-strong Symbian consumer base has seen the Ovi Store catalogue grow to more than 40 000 apps, with about 1 000 added per week. Nokia: Its Easier Task Is To Start Windows
Phone Than To Continue To Operate Symbian

In interviews with the Financial Times, Nokia's Chairman and former CEO of the Nokia Corporation (1992–2006) Jorma Ollila, Nokia Chief Executive Stephen Elop and the whole Nokia leadership team identified the transition from Symbian to Windows Phone as one of the most challenging parts of the new strategy.

Sebastian Nyström Appointed
As The New Head Of MeeGo Team

When Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia announced its new strategy at Mobile World Congress 2011, it also announced that Alberto Torres, the head of Nokia's MeeGo Computers, would leave the company and today they finally appointed a new head of its MeeGo team, namely Sebastian Nyström, former leader of the Qt development team at the handset vendor.

Prior to his current position he was Sebastian Nyström is Vice President of Qt Software at Nokia. Digia To Acquire Qt Commercial
Licensing Business From Nokia

Digia Plc. has signed an agreement with Nokia to acquire the Qt commercial licensing and services business.

Through the proposed acquisition, around 3500 desktop and embedded customer companies from various industries are targeted to be transferred to Digia.

Only One In Five American Mobile Phone
Owners Use The Mobile Internet Every Day

One in five American mobile phone owners use the mobile Internet every day, according to the 2011 Mobile Internet Attitudes Report from Antenna Software. 

The second annual survey conducted by YouGov measured the attitudes, preferences and behaviors of adult consumers in the United States and United Kingdom.

Nokia Has Rolled Out Update
For Symbian^3's Quick Search Widget

I just want to give everyone a quick heads up that Nokia has rolled over the air updated to its Quick Search Application for Symbian^3 powered Smartphones including Nokia N8, C7, C6-01 and E7).

There is no detailed change log but according to Nokia, this new update brings several additions to your Search widget such as search history suggestions and faster access to your favourite search engines.

Folks over at Nokia Beta Labs have announced today the availability of the first update of its recently released Big Screen application that brings number of enhancements including support for the Nokia E7 and Greatly improved photos performance with faster full screen image and better quality

Nokia Is Still Determined
To Keep Improving Symbian OS!!

Even though the Nokia is switching to Microsoft's Windows Phone OS as its primary smartphone platform, Finnish company is still determined to keep improving its own Symbian operating system!!

Real Time Trials - Microsoft To Begin
Aggressive Windows Phone Marketing Campaign

Microsoft has become known for their frequently aggressive advertising campaigns since the launch of the Windows Phone 7 and now it seems that company is taking social media marketing a step further with the launch of series of flash commercials named "Real Time Ttrials" that pit Windows Phones against rival devices.

WinRumors has obtained draft copies of the commercials in which Microsoft shows off its Windows Phone devices in a number of different scenarios including checking Xbox achievements, getting directions home and telling colleagues you're late.

Trojan Targeting Symbian Powered Phones

Security researchers over at F-Secure are warning S60 Smartphone users of a newly discovered mobile malware identified as 'Merogo SMS' aimed at Symbian based devices powered with the S60 Third Edition platform. From the details that gathered so far, this appears to be the same type of ZeuS Man-in-the-mobile attack that took place in Spain last year. Spanish security company, S21sec first reported on ZeuS Mitmo.

Symbian^3 Version Of Mobbler
Applications Graduates Out of Beta

The latest version of Symbian's Last.fm client, that brought support for Symbian^3 devices has been available in public beta for awhile now so it is no surprise that it is finally ready for prime time.

Michael Coffey, creator and project lead of Mobbler, confirmed today through his Twitter account that his Last.fm client for Symbian' devices is being promoted out of beta to our stable release and is available for free from Nokia’s Ovi store.

New Software For Nokia E52
Now Available As FOTA Update

Just want to give everyone a quick heads up that latest firmware update (v54.003) for Nokia's most compact messaging device, the Nokia E52 will be progressively available for most of the generic product codes as FOTA update 'Firmware Over The Air' and is expected to be shortly available through the Nokia Software Updater as well.

Stephen Elop Said He Sold All His Microsoft
Shares And Bought 150,000 Shares In Nokia

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop, the first non-Finn to head the firm, said in a meeting with Finnish business journalists that he has sold all his remaining Microsoft shares on February 17 and has bought 150,000 shares of Nokia, according to Reuters. The sale has not been recorded with the SEC yet.

Elop joined Nokia from Microsoft in October, and according to Daily Finance, he had more than 130,000 shares worth more than $3 million. His holdings caused some speculation that he was actually a "Trojan horse" planted by Microsoft to secure the world's largest phone maker as a partner for Microsoft's Windows Phone.

As we already reported couple of months ago, there's a lot of activity underway, Nokia programmers working on more than 50 modifications and improvements based on early user feedback and most of them are planned to come in the first quarter of 2011.

Radio frequency exposure from cell phone use does not appear to increase the risk of developing brain cancers by any significant amount, a study by University of Manchester scientists suggests. The researchers used publicly available data from the UK Office of National Statistics to look at trends in rates of newly diagnosed brain cancers in England between 1998 and 2007.

Updated Version Of Bubbles
App Appeared At Nokia Beta Labs

Folks over at Nokia Beta Labs have announced today the availability of the first minor update of its recently released Bubbles application.

Unfortunately change log is not available at the moment but (as you would imagine), it is always highly suggestible to get latest update as it usually reduce number of bugs and brings performance and functionality improvements.

Nokia Sees Price Of Windows
Phone Based Devices Dropping Quickly

Prices of smartphones using Microsoft's Windows Phone software platform will fall fast, Nokia's chief executive Stephen Elop said on Friday. Elop said one of the key topics in the talks on doing a deal with Microsoft was convincing Nokia that it could reach "a very low price point."

"We have become convinced that we can do that very quickly," Chief Executive Stephen Elop said in a meeting with Finnish business journalists.

Preview Of Digia's Qt Based
NFC ShopWizer App For Symbian Devices

Digia, one of our certified Qt partners has produced a nifty demo that previews what Qt can do in the NFC space. They have created an app called ShopWizer that currently runs on a Nokia C7.

Applications such as Shopwizer are made possible by this API, and Digia used a technical preview version of the Connectivity API from Qt Mobility 1.2 to build the demo.

Nokia Picks ST-Ericsson As Key Supplier Of Chipset Platforms For Its Windows Phone Based Devices!?

ST-Ericsson, a global leader in wireless platforms and semiconductors, has told Reuters that they’re preparing chips for Nokia to use with their Windows Phone based devices.

ST-Ericsson is focusing strongly on Microsoft's platform to deliver chips and will be ready when Nokia ramps up production of new Windows Phones, the chief executive of the mobile chip venture said.

Nokia Is Going To Wait For 'Mango' To Release
Its First Windows Phone Powered Smartphone!?

According to Guardian, Nokia will not adopt the Windows Phone 7 platform and will wait for the next major release of the operating system, codenamed "Mango", which is expected to be available this coming October.

Nokia’s chief executive announced last week that Nokia will abandon its market-leading in-house Symbian smartphone platform but from other hand, he has been careful throughout the week to refer to the adoption as Windows Phone – and not Windows Phone 7.

The Market Leader In Malaysia

2010 was a boom year for the mobile phone industry in Malaysia, as consumers snapped up over 24 percent more units of mobile phone; growing the overall value of the industry by 30 percent compared to the year before.

Smartphones were the key contributors to the industry's good performance, with GfK Malaysia's retail audit findings reflecting more than a two-fold growth of 208 percent in the number of units sold, and 150 percent increase in terms of value sales.

Study Shows Android Users Are The Most 'Web Intensive', Symbian Users Like Facebook More Than Google, Windows Phone OS Is Not Even Mentioned

The GfK Network Intelligence Solution (GfK NIS) service has highlighted the significant variations in between different operating systems in terms of mobile web activity. The pioneering research method analyses mobile behaviour via operators' IP traffic.

GfK NIS is already installed in several European markets and during the autumn of 2010, GfK measured more than 20 million website visits in four European countries to discover that the intensity of web usage differs significantly between operating systems.

Android users were the most 'web intensive' with an average of 9.1 daily site visits per user, compared to iphone (8.0), BlackBerry (5.7) and Symbian (5.2), the latter utilised more as a ‘feature’ phone as opposed to a ‘smart’ phone.  GfK NIS also unc... .. .

According to Pyramid Research:
Symbian Is Dead, Long Live Windows Phone!?

The recent partnership of Nokia and Microsoft announces Nokia's adoption of Windows Phone (WP) as its primary smartphone strategy.

Symbian smartphones will still be shipped during its transition to WP7 over at least the next 6 to 8 quarters, and the long-awaited MeeGo device will eventually see the light, but there will be only one MeeGo device, according to a new research note from Stela Bokun, Senior Analyst at Pyramid Research.

Nokia's Strategic Partnership With
Microsoft Could Cost 6000 Finnish Jobs

World leading mobile phone maker Nokia's new partnership with Microsoft could entail up to 6,000 layoffs in Finland, the head of a large Finnish union said Monday.

"In the worst case scenario, it could be up to around 6,000 (job cuts)," said Antti Rinne, the head of Finland's Union of Salaried Employees (TU), which counts some 130,000 members.

At the end of the Nokia’s press conference at Mobile World Congress somebody in the audience yelled to CEO Stephen Elop: "Are you a Trojan Horse?"

Elop of course denied that he was a plant. "I'll take that question. The obvious answer is no. We made sure that the entire management team was involved in the process, and of course the board of directors of Nokia are the only ones that can make this significant of a decision about Nokia. They made that final decision on Thursday night."

Stephen Elop Respond's To
Google's Vic Gundotra's Turkeys Jibe

A slight war of words is breaking out after last week's tweet from Google's Vice-President of Engineering, Vic Gundotra, when the Microsoft and Nokia partnership was still just a Rumor, who described the Microsoft/Nokia tie up as "Two turkeys do not make an Eagle".

Noki's own CEO, Stephen Elop who also has a little used Twitter account responded after the announcement on Friday morning with "Two bicycle makers, from Dayton Ohio, one day decided to fly."

Firmware v42.014 For Nokia E6 Now
Available Through Nokia Software Updater!

Nokia has just rolled out new software version for its affordable QWERTY smartphone to fix bugs and glitches found in the actual firmware as well as to bring updates to preinstalled applications.

Firmware version v42 for Nokia E5 is now available through the Nokia Software Updater for most of the generic product codes from EMEA region and APAC should be progressively available for rest of the product codes.

Unfortunately it is not available as OTA update which is by the way the best possible way of delivering such a small software updates and it is kind strange why Nokia decided not offer it as over the air update. There are no visible changes repo... .. .

When your primary partner for bringing you mobile OS to market says The company also wanted to remind us that Nokia is just one of many partners, and that MeeGo will be coming to multiple devices, especially tablets.

Although Nokia still plans to ship one MeeGo-related product later this year it is clear that Finnish phone-maker is taking a step back from MeeGo. European Mobile Carriers Pray That Nokia
Will Not Pick Android As Its Operating System

Nokia prepares to make a major shift in its mobile strategy and may very well consider moving to a third-party OS like Android or Windows Phone 7, European mobile carriers really hoping that Finnish Phone Company will stays away from Android.

Mobile Security Threats Growing Dramatically
Symbian Remains The Most Targeted For Malware

Smartphone security threats rose sharply last year as a proliferation of Internet-enabled mobile devices like smartphones and tablets provided new opportunities for cybercriminals, security software maker McAfee said. Android Rises, Symbian^3 and Windows Phone 7 Launch as Worldwide Smartphone Shipments Increase 87.2% Year Over Year

According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, vendors shipped a total of 100.9 million smartphones during the fourth quarter of 2010 (4Q10), up 87.2% from the 53.9 million smartphones shipped during 4Q09. For the full year, vendors shipped a total of 302.6 million smartphones worldwide, up 74.4% from the 173.5 million smartphones shipped in 2009.

WeFi Releases Q4 Data Report on Wi-Fi Usage
70% Symbian Users Consume Less Than 100 Mb

Nokia E6 Gets Ready
For Mobile World Congress?!?

It looks like that now we have more than enough information and photos to sure that phone is real , with special thanks going out to anonymous Engadget’s tipsters, a person who have given them a couple of live pictures of the yet unannounced Nokia E6.

Nokia E6 looks like an improved version of the Nokia E5 (multi award winning by the E71 and E72 form factor) with the high resolution VGA display (not a touchscreen one) and the E7 like 8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash that was also rumoured before.

According to a global study from Nokia, 58 per cent of smartphone users in India believe apps truly benefit their lives, relying on them while at home (31 per cent), travelling (24 per cent), or at work (10 per cent).

Nokia, along with Professor Trevor Pinch, Cornell University's leading sociologist and professor of science and technology studies, analyzed more than 5,200 smartphone users in 10 countries – India, Singapore, China, South Africa, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK, and USA. The study was aimed at gathering insights into the smartphone behaviour of consumers in these countries.

According to Reuters' Arno Schuetze and Tarmo Virki, the world's biggest cellphone maker, is likely to sack several executive board members in a management shake-up, a German weekly reported.

Update (v062.001) For Nokia C5

Just want to give everyone a quick heads up that latest firmware update (v62.001) for one of company’s most affordable smartphone is now regularly available for most of the generic product codes as 'Over The Air' update and as usually, it should be progressively available at the Nokia service points and downloadable through the NSU as well.

According to good folks over at DialToSave, Three won’t be the only UK network to stock the Nokia E7, as Vodafone has also revealed its plans to offer  the Nokia's business-centric flagship smartphone. Users can register to receive updates on its availability and pricing on Vodafone now.

The handset cropped up on the network’s 'Coming Soon' page, but unfotunately without any  details regarding the handset’s pricing, although it’s likely to fetch around £30.00/month on a 2 year contract – the same as its Nokia N8 sibling.

Nokia Has Rolled Out First
Firmware Update For Nokia C7?!?

I just wanted to give everyone a quick heads up that Nokia has rolled out the first firmware update for Nokia C7, while the other two Symbian^3 powered smartphones (Nokia N8 and Nokia C6-01) are expected to get pretty much the same update shortly.

Firmware version 13.0.16, (also known as PR 1.1) is now regularly available for most of the generic Euro codes as 'Over The Air' update and as usually, it should be progressively available at the Nokia service points and available through the NSU as well.

There is no detailed change log but it is anyway highly suggestible to get it as it usually brings dozens of minor bug fixes and improves reliability of your phone and offers ext... .. .
