| + Nokia boosts growing 3G WCDMA portfolio with new Nokia 6680 megapixel smartphone |
14 February 2005,
Cannes, France - At the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France, Nokia today introduced a new arrival to the 3G arena, the Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone. The new Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone is

optimized for visual sharing, boasting two integrated cameras, a flash, and a bright screen of up to 262,144 colors. Designed for ease-of-use, the active slide covering the back camera of the Nokia 6680 provides fast and intuitive camera activation as well as effortless switching between cameras during a video call.

A wide range of smartphone features, including organizer, video streaming and Internet browser, are complemented by 3G-enabled features such as two-way video calls*, video sharing* and always-on e-mail, making the well-designed Nokia 6680 a versatile work tool. Based on the leading smartphone Series 60 Platform, the tri-band phone for GSM 900/1800/1900, EDGE and WCDMA networks offers seamless roaming in over 100 countries around the world. The Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone is expected to be available in March 2005 with an estimated, unsubsidized sales price of approximately 500 euros.
"The Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone is the next step in mobile convergence, offering instant communications in an attractively styled, slim form," said Anssi Vanjoki, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Multimedia, Nokia. "The Nokia 6680 conveys a new level of a multimedia device experience: it combines smartness and computer power in a unique way, with a multitude of methods for visual sharing. And to top it all off, the device is incredibly easy, instinctive and logical to use."
In addition to two-way video calling* functionality, which enables remote video conferencing, the Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone also provides for video sharing*, a new multimedia service that allows people to share live camera views or video clips during a normal voice call. By simply opening the camera slide, the show-you-what-I-mean type video can spontaneously be added to a voice call and dropped when no longer needed.

The powerful Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone offers a variety of productivity features. For example, the always-on e-mail supports office document viewers and various types of attachments (JPEG, MP3, PPT, DOC, XLS, PDF). The HTML browser brings web access in a pocketable format, and calendar information, contacts and tasks can be easily synchronized with compatible PCs.

In addition to the integrated VGA camera (640 x 480 pixels) at the front of the device, the Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone also incorporates a 1.3 megapixel camera (1280 x 960 pixels) with a slide for camera activation and control. Capturing images is easier than ever with the slide and shoot functionality, where the camera is activated by simply opening the slide. Featuring a large bright active matrix color display with automatic brightness control, the Nokia 6680 imaging phone's smooth 6 x digital zoom, integrated LED-based flash, and high-quality lens provide for capturing sharp images. Furthermore, users can select from various color tones when capturing images, including sepia, negative as well as black and white.
The Nokia XpressPrint printing solution makes producing great prints of images, as well as e-mails and organizer information, easier than ever. With Nokia XpressPrint, users can print directly from the Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone, using a range of compatible home or office printers or photo kiosks found in retail stores. In printing via PictBridge, for example, the handset is connected directly to a compatible printer via a USB cable. The Nokia XpressPrint solution also allows for wireless printing over Bluetooth wireless technology. Furthermore, the MMC card can conveniently be extracted from the side of the phone and inserted into a compatible printer for easy mobile printing.
Weighing 133 grams and measuring 108.4 x 55.2 x 20.5 mm (104 cc), the Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone is based on Symbian OS. In addition to the integrated music player with stereo output, the Nokia 6680 also supports the mobile music solution for operators that Nokia and Loudeye announced earlier today.

| + Sendo X2 |
14 February 2005,
Billed as a "music phone", the Sendo X2 is actually much more than that. Derived from the well-received Sendo X, the X2 comes with an improved camera at 1.3 megapixels, miniSD memory expansion (up to 1Gb) replacing the older SD slots in the X, plus the X2 comes with MP3 playback support in addition to many other multimedia formats.
Like the X, this is a Symbian Series 60 smartphone, but it's much lighter than the X - the Sendo X2 comes in at just 95 grams and it's only 18mm thick.
Sound output is through Sendo's "SoniX" audio system, and the maximum of 1Gb of memory should easily fit over a dozen CDs worth of music. Sure, this is no iPod in music terms, but it's highly impressive. Sendo have spent some time
The screen size on the Sendo X2 isn't specified, but we imagine that it's 176x220 pixels. Of course, this is a Bluetooth phone so it can be connected to a PC or a variety of peripherals.
There are the normal series 60 features such as a web browser and email support. The X2 has GPRS and tri-band GSM. In addition, the Sendo X2 comes with voice recognition.
The X2 is the flagship product of a set of three new handsets from Sendo, and is by far the most advanced. These new devices are combined with a much more aggressive marketing approach (called "YOU CHOOSE") from Sendo in order to boost brand recognition and sales.
Slated for availability in Europe during the Summer of 2005, it will be key test of Sendo's abilities if they can actually get the X2 to market in this time. However, this is a seriously cool looking handset (although maybe not quite as cool as the original X) and will be worth waiting for, whenever it turns up.

| + Nokia and Macromedia Team Up to Bring Flash to Series 60 |
14 February 2005,
Nokia has signed a license agreement with macromedia today to bring Macromedia Flash technology
to their Series 60 Platform. Nokia also stated that they will support flash in its other software platforms.
Hopefully we will see some great flash games, movies, and interactive applications for the new platform. Nokia wants developers to start their engines and start developing for their new platform!
"We also welcome all Flash developers and designers to build new compelling applications on Series 60 and to create cutting-edge mobile content."
Recently, Samsung announced that they were going to use flash mobile on their handsets as well.
Defiantly great news for mobile technology! For more info on Mobile Flash visit www.macromedia.com/mobile. For more info on the Series 60 platform based on Symbian OS from Nokia visit www.series60.com. |
| + Nokia "RM-57" - Tiny 3G Phone? |
13 February 2005,
Announcement expected soon
FCC approval has just been granted from a new and possibly very tiny 3G handset, codenamed the "RM-57". No pictures are available, but FCC approval document LJPRM-57 gives a tantalising glimpse into the possible physical size and characterstics.
FCC approval is being sought for a unit broadcasting in the 2402.0 to 2480.0 and 1850.2 to 1909.8 MHz range, which indicates to us a 3G + GSM device.
The rear diagram of the handset shows a space for a SIM card. Thanks to the magic of photographic manipulation, we can come up with a rough size. You can see quite clearly that the handset appears to be slightly smaller than a credit card in terms of size, we think coming in at about 86x44mm which is a little smaller than the Nokia 8310.
If our size estimates are correct, then this is probably the smallest 3G phone in the world. Of course, we haven't seen the front and it's always possible we may have misidentified the specfications, but it's clear that Nokia have something very interesting up their sleeves here, probably ready to be announced at the 3GSM world congress on 14th February 2005 or shortly afterwards. |
| + Nokia 6680 without hotswap MMC ?!?? |
12 February 2005,
Under the latest info Nokia will be releasing a new 3G phone sometime in Q2 of 2005.
The Nokia 6680 will be running Series 60 (Symbian) operating system (it must be v9 by my opinion, because they support Bluetooth Stereo headsets, Multi-mega-pixel cams,
simula...., also this explains why the 6630 only had one camera) and have two built in cameras.
The camera on the back of the phone will be used for taking pictures and recording videos.
The camera on the front will be used for video calls.
As u can see on supplied drawing the MMC cards is placed under the battery, so that's might means that they don't have hot swap
support
