+ Sony Ericsson's PlayStation Phone 'Could Happen'

23 November 2010

Sony Ericsson's CEO Hinted That PlayStation
Phone Could Be Announced Next Year At MWC

Sony EricssonIn a recent interview to The Wall Street Journal, the head of Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications, Bert Nordberg indicated that the that Japanese-Swedish joint venture might be working with parent company Sony Corp. on a smartphone with a slide-out controller to play video games and that company will get premission to use Sony's powerful PlayStation brand for a range of gaming phones!

"There's a lot of smoke, and I tell you there must be a fire somehwere. Sony has an extremely strong offering in the gaming market, and that's very interesting," Nordberg said, adding that he hopes Sony Ericsson will make a lot of "noise," at the Mobile World Congress tradeshow in Barcelona next year.

Phone is rumored to run Android Gingerbread, offer a slide-out gaming pad, a 1GHz Qualcomm processor, 512MB of RAM, and the ability to connect to Sony Marketplace.

Mr. Nordberg, who said he wants to make a lot of "noise" with a new product at the Mobile Word Congress in Barcelona in February, said there is no technological difficulty in launching a gaming-oriented phone.

The main challenge, he said, is that the company has to consult many lawyers to negotiate rights issues with game publishers. "I'm very glad that we work with a company like Sony, who actually knows how to do it," he added.
