+ C7 Has A Secret Weapon That Waiting To Be Unleashed

20 October 2010

Nokia C7 Is Hiding A Secret Weapon Up
Its Sleeve That Waiting To Be Unleashed!

Nokia C7 According to the folks over at Nokia C7 is hiding a secret weapon up its sleeve that waiting to be unleashed whenever Nokia choose!

For a Smartphone that is considered to be significantly cheaper and less equipped than the Nokia N8, the Nokia C7 certainly throws hefty surprises at every level.

Not only that it features a huge internal memory space of 8 GB, great eight mega pixel camera but is also equipped with the Near Field Communication (NFC) chip that is promised to get software support within the next firmware update.

"We didn’t want to postpone the whole device announcement because of the software upgrade." The device "can be upgraded later to support NFC," a Nokia spokesman has confirmed to NFC World, but no release date for the software upgrade has yet been set.

There is also no word yet on whether the phone includes an embedded secure element or if it supports the single wire protocol (SWP), the SIM-based secure element solution favoured by mobile network operators.

Nokia has also confirmed, however, that the C7 is the only one of the four devices it unveiled at Nokia World last month to include NFC functionality. Neither the C3, the C6 nor the E7 contain an NFC chip.

NFC is the technology that powers near-proximity payment systems such as contactless credit cards or London's Oyster Card ticketing system. When brought within close range of a NFC reader, small-value transactions can be performed using induced power, removing the need for a dedicated power source.

NFC mobile phones have thus far relied on hard-wired elements within the phone itself. The Nokia C7 should be the first to support NFC-capable SIM cards – something mobile operators have been pressing for some time.

Near Field Communication (NFC) offers exciting opportunities across an ever-widening spectrum of application areas and market sectors. NFC makes many tasks easier and more convenient by providing access to systems and services simply with a touch.

Based on a short-range wireless connectivity, NFC hardware is activated by bringing two NFC compatible devices or tags within a few centimeters from one another or literally touching them together.

NFC is compatible with the existing contactless reader infrastructure that is used daily by millions of people and devices worldwide. The native NFC functionality in the phone can access existing services by reading service shortcuts from NFC tags.

The estimated retail price of the Nokia C7 is EUR 335 before applicable taxes or subsidies, with pricing and availability varying from region to region, operator to operator.
