Nokia Image Space Gets An Update
And Mobile Client with Augmented Reality
Good folks over at Nokia Beta Labs have updated their experimental Image Space service with Mobile browsing client that allows you to view the Image Space content around you in Augmented Reality.
Furthermore it allows you to browse the content straight from your mobile device, similarly as you do with the IS Browser on a computer. You can view and comment the content of other users as well.
If you want to try out, you need to download and install Qt 4.6 and Nokia Image Space Mobile to your N97 mini or other S60 5th edition devices equipped with compass sensor. You can easily create content for this Augmented Reality application by simply taking a photo with IS Capture on and posting it to Flickr for your contacts or general public.
Image Space offers a new way to explore and share photos and create some kind of mirror world full of digital content. Users can experience places and collaborate in a novel fashion. The mash-up architecture enables creative development and adoption of Image Space.
By using an advanced technologies like GPS, compass and accelerometer found on the Nokia 6210 Navigator all the necessary data are automatically grabbed and incorporated into each picture shot without user influence.
Once when you get back to home, you can easily upload all of the taken photos and Image Space will map them into groups to create image journeys. Of course, you can share this virtual image journey with others and theirs journeys with you so you can extend your journey.
Nokia Image Space
Nokia Image Space provides you a new view to your own photos, as well as to those from your friends and other people.
You simply link your Flickr account to Image Space. You can then start browsing and sharing photos in Image Space and this way building a view to your part of the world. Your account, the privacy settings and contact lists are handled in Flickr. You see your Flickr contacts and those photos you have access to. Moreover, the comments, tags and photo descriptions can be viewed and edited in Image Space.
When there are enough photos of a given area which have been made publicly available, Image Space generates a 3D presentation from them. This feature will be ramped up in phases during the next two months, so please be patient. You can see some examples now at Helsinki and Tampere.
Notice: Nokia Image Space is an experimental research project by Nokia Research Center. Uploading photos by using Nokia Share Online client in the phone generates data traffic between the mobile phone and the service. The traffic costs depend on your network operator and data plan.
