Skype Today Announced The Release
Of A Limited Beta Version For Symbian Devices
If you are waiting for the native Skype client for Symbian phones you have probably already suspend your hopes and/or got some of the 3rd party solutions that transfer voice and video over the cell or wi-fi networks to Skype network.
Fortunately, the long wait is over as Skype has just announced the release of a limited Beta Version for Symbian 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 and FP2 Devices, with the production release planned to be compatible with more phones and gets support for touch User Interface.
Please remember that it is a beta release, which means that the quality is not up to our usual high standards. Skype for Symbian supports, Free Skype-to-Skype calling, Call phones with Skype credits or subscription, Receive calls on your Online Number, Instant Messaging, Group conversations, File sending and receiving.
Skype for Symbian works over Wifi or 3G data connection. We recommend having a unlimited data plan when using 3G connection.
"Making Skype available everywhere through mobile devices is essential to fulfilling our vision of 'enabling the world's conversations'," said Scott Durchslag, Skype's Chief Operating Officer.
"Collaborating closely with Nokia to preload and integrate our software onto their devices will benefit the many Nokia customers who already use Skype, as it makes Skype easily accessible and simple to use on the go. It will also bring Skype new users who love Nokia's Symbian S60 experience."
