Nokia N97 With FW v20 Added
To Remote Device Access Services!!
As you may have already know, Remote device access services enable remote access to various live Nokia devices based on the Symbian OS over the Internet.
RDA service is mainly aimed for developers and offers a possibility to reduce the effort on testing, demoing and content & application development but it is also a great opportunity for freaks like us to test some of the hottest upcoming phones and software updates.
Unfortunately service is heavily optimized for the S60 devices and therefore phone that I would like to test the most is not available yet but I’m pretty sure that those of you who own Nokia N97 would like to know that phone with long awaited software version 20 is now available on the Nokia's RDA service and if you have a valid Forum Nokia Account you can reserve a testing session right now and start your virtual walkthrough the upcoming firmware update for the Nokia’s flagship Symbian device.
Sure, it's not like you testing a real device but it’s definitely the next best thing to having a phone in your hands. The system consists of a device pool connected to a server, and users connecting to the server in order to remotely use the devices.
Once you establish connection with device, the screen of the device is transferred to your desktop in real time, hmm, more like with a slight delay but it is as expected after all. After the home screen appears you’ll be able to install applications, transfer files, test browser, actually you’ll be able to do everything like with real device and you’ll also be able to take the screenshots and even make a video with the build in tools.
So, as I said, all you need basically is a valid account and if you still not a registered there better do it as soon as possible because it is totally free and will cost you nothing.
Oh yes, a guru tip at the end: you see, by default the colors depth is et to the lowest possible value and it is highly suggestible to increase it to 24bit if you have a better connection because you’ll get the same display quality as on the actual device.
If you have any question or problem with accessing RDA I'm available over at our forum section 24/7 (more or less) so please don't be hesitate to ask anything!
