Samsung Mobile Innovator Has Released
Alpha Version Of OmniaHD Devotement Pack
As a response to Nokia's release of its very first device specific SDK for their forthcoming flagship touch device, Symbian dev team over at Samsung Mobile Innovator developers portal have released the Alpha version of the DevPack for the Samsung i8910 a.k.a OmniaHD!
This first ever Samsung DevPack features everything you need to develop for Samsung’s flagship Symbian phone and brings the support for custom Samsung APIs and features on this device!
The SDK plug-in is still in Alpha stage and not even some of the features available work properly; the Touch wiz interface is also not available, making the emulator look like a regular Symbian 9.4 OS.
The are planning to add more functionality to this pack in the coming weeks, but for now the DevPack contains:
-
MotionUI API that provides data from the sensor framework regarding the movement types of the device(stationary, linear, shaking etc.). It can be tested with two applications:
- one provides an animation that starts when the phone is picked up & ends when it is put down and
- a Stopwatch that can be started via shaking.
- NaviSensor API that is also available in 3rd edition fp2, providing high compatibility for accelerometer and geomagnetometer sensor readings.Three applications are provided:
-
GSensor example where bubbles rise from the bottom towards the top of the screen, responding to changes in phone acceleration and orientation.
- MovingBall simply a bouncing ball.
- Percussion, turns omnia HD into a drumstick.
- The sensor framework also provides the AmbientLight status for which the DevPack provides an application that can be controlled in this manner, a bat that responds to changes in light intensity.
-
Emulator for testing and debugging applications, including Samsung i8910 bitmaps (skins), key mappings, and customisations required to reproduce the i8910 look and feel and device behaviour on the Emulator, for example the Samsung boot sequence, customised home screen, and other features
Custom Emulator controls: Input buttons for X, Y, Z accelerometer values, 4-way controller for orientation
Unfortulately the look and feel of the emulator is nothing like the original omnia HD and we hope we will see a beta version as soon as possible
The SDK is available here and the DevPack here
