+ New Firmware Update For E71 Available and Hackable??!

17 March 2009

New Firmware Update
For Nokia E71 Has Just Gone Live

FirmwareI just want to give everyone a quick heads up that Nokia has rolled out new firmware update for their flagship Eseries model earlier this morning!

Firmware upgrade version 210.21.006 is now available through Nokia Software Updater for most of the generic product codes from EMEA and APAC region and is expected to be available for the rest of the world (NAM and branded devices) shortly.

Unfortunately full change log is not available at the moment but as you would imagine, the firmware update is always recommended because it usually improves the performance and reliability!

So far it is only confirmed that 210.21.006 is not fully hackable with the HelloOX 1.03 neither with the latest available version 1.04 but heard an I got unsettling information from an anonymous tipster that software is hackable by using the MapDrives and the HelloOX 1.02 and I just hope that somone will confirm this as soon as possible.

Anyway, if you don't care about hacking and if your phone is in range of currently supported generic codes just connect it to PC, run Nokia Software Updater and do it ;)

Last but not the least, our Shadamehr reports that there is a new version of NSU itself now, to take it from 1.4.85en (for English Markets), to 1.4.98en.

That's all I know for now, I'll try to get the full change log as soon as possible, in mean time join discussion and tells us if there are some noticeable changes.

UPDATE: It is confiremd as hackable (10X Blesio) but apparently there are no any noticeable chnages or improvements, here is the detailed Blesio's report:

Hi, let me answer the question from the main page of the Symbian-freak web about hacking.

  • I confirm that this firmware is hackable with the mapdrives routine and copying the installserver.exe to y: after installing Rompatcher with the Open4All patch
  • I can't tell you what's new because I don't see anything new.
  • The Music library is just as slow as it was before....
  • You still have the camera sounds even though the sound profile is set to silent, guess Nokia will not undo that even in the future releases (there's a workaround though).
  • The phone seems to boot faster, although it might be subjective as the phone has no apps installed.
  • Adobe Flash is 3.0, no update here
  • No Theme effects, Nokia why? You've put them on the E66....
  • QuickOffice 4.1.37.3
  • Search app version 4.0
  • Camera - no geotagging, not good
  • Picture gallery, surprise, it opens blazing fast, or maybe it's ma blazing fast 8GB microSDHC speed index 6
  • Nokia Maps 2.0 week 39 so nothing new.

That's about it. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask... ..
