21 February 2009

Imagination and Samsung Demoed
Advanced Graphics On Omnia HD Smartphone

Nokia Image SpaceSamsung’s new Omnia HD is the first S60 touch device built on a Texas Instruments OMAP3 chip which giving it at least 3 times better graphic performance over the conventional ARM11 processors that Nokia uses in their touch devices, Nokia 5800 XM as well as Nokia N97.

It is mainly due the great PowerVR SGX 2D/3D GPU from Imagination Technology incorporated into even greater Texas Instrument’s OMAP 3430 together with the fully programmable VGP vertex processor core, FPU (floating point unit) and Superscalar 600 MHz ARM Cortex-A8 RISC core!

Samsung Omnia HD i8910 is the first mobile phone enabled with advanced OpenGL ES 2.0 shader-based graphics and is capable to provide superior graphics performance and advanced user interface capabilities. sophisticated and dynamic images with “smart pixel” technology offered via OpenGL ES 2.0.

Texas Instrument also is enabling sophisticated and dynamic images in the mobile gaming environment with "smart pixel" technology offered via OpenGL ES 2.0.

With support for up to 720p HD-video playback (1280x720 pixels), the OMAP 3430 application processor gives direct access to personal video content stored in high-definition formats and with ability encode high-definition video, meaning you could use Omnia HD as both a high-definition player and camcorder.

Imagination Technologies, the multimedia chip technologies company, and Samsung are working together to demonstrate the revolutionary graphics capabilities of the new Samsung Omnia HD i8910 at MWC 2009.

At the Mobile World Congress, Imagination and Samsung have worked together to develop demonstrations of the phone’s stunning shader-based graphics capabilities which truly take mobile phone graphics to the next level.

Imagination’s POWERVR Insider SDK (software development kit) – a comprehensive set of graphics application development tools - now supports the latest Samsung smartphone, the Omnia HD i8910, as well as existing Samsung handsets including the GT-i8510 and GT-i7110. The POWERVR Insider SDK is the leading SDK and toolset for mobile 3D graphics development.

The POWERVR Insider SDK is fully compliant with the Khronos OpenGL ES 2.0 API which is supported, for the first time in the mobile market, by the new Samsung phones. A comprehensive SDK is offered which includes tutorials, source code, documentation, platform abstraction framework and a valuable tools library.
