NS BASIC Adds Support For
Nokia S60 5th Edition And Tuch UI

NS BasicNS Basic Corporation has released an upgrade to its NS Basic toolset for Symbian OS development that adds support for the Nokia 5800 and its high-definition touchscreen, letting you write BASIC programs on the desktop, then downloading them to mobile device.

NS Basic/Symbian OS 1.1 has improved screen rendering and gradient buttons, and added Italian languages the IDE supports.

"The Nokia 5800, with more than a million units shipped, is one of the fastest selling smartphone devices in history." said NS BASIC's George Henne.

"Now, the easiest way to create apps for Nokia smartphones based on the S60 3rd and 5th edition platform is also one of the first to provide touchscreen support."

NS Basic/Symbian OS has a VB like look and feel. It is a complete standalone development tool, featuring:

  • Easy to use, standard and structured BASIC
  • Support for Symbian OS S60 3rd & 5th Edition and UIQ3 devices
  • Over a dozen built in screen objects
  • Buttons, fields, popups and more
  • TCP/IP communications
  • Math and trigonometric functions

The product includes an IDE (Interactive Development Environment) with a graphic design screen, powerful code editor, compiler and installer generator. It is a complete development environment with a total download of about 10 megs. No additional SDKs are needed. Tutorials and online help make it easy to get started quickly.

Pricing and Availability
Applications developed with NS Basic/Symbian OS are distributed royalty free. NS Basic/Symbian OS 1.0 normally costs $149.95 USD for a single user, with an introductory special of $129.95. Pro licenses, which allow full application signing, are $299.95. The toolkit runs on Windows 2000, XP and Vista. The product is available immediately from the company's website.
