+ New firmware for 5800 brings extensive improvements!

09 February 2008

Mayor Firmware Update For Nokia 5800
Available Through NSU and As FOTA Update

Nokia 5800After couple of minor and pretty much useless firmware updates Nokia has rolled out a first Major update for its first touch based S60 phone.

Firmware 20.0.012 for Nokia 5800 XM is now available through the Nokia Software Updater as well as the FOTA update for most of the generic product codes and as usually it will be progressively available in the next few days at the official Nokia Service Points where you'll be able to get it for free in case you have slow dial-up internet connection.

Just released firmware fixes several issues and offers extensive improvements in the performance and optimizes the functionality of the phone across many applications.

Improvements include the addition of the geotagging, better, faster and more accurate autofocus and the support for the front camera.

Beside the massive improvements in the camera part, this firmware update also brings dozens of minor bug fixes and improvements. Some of the preinstalled applications got a new redesigned icons, menu is extended with the new podcast and App. Update applications and is significantly faster as well as the gallery application.

Another more than welcome improvement is the ability to customize the active stndbay like on the Eseries devices and the best of all it is still hackable and new HelloOX hack works just fine!!!

The only downside of this update is the decreasing the free RAM from 57MB of free RAM before update to approximately 49MB after update but it anyway definitely worth upgrading!!!

As I have laready said, software release is available though either the Nokia Software Updater or directly through your Nokia 5800 as the as FOTA update. To get this software through your Nokia 5800, click Menu > Settings > Phone > Phone mgmt. and finally Device Updates. Now just Select Options > Check for updates and follow the on-screen prompts. Remember that you can also use Wi-Fi to download the update and that it is around 10MB!

That's all folks, as usually, more info over at our forum section. Also I would like to apologize because of my absence from blogging today, I am feeling terrible and have absolutely NO energy, I got cold two days ago and felt sick, actually I was lazy to go to the doctor and had to get up far too early this morning and go to office and now I’m feeling even worse.

I’ve just boot my home desk and trying to answer on some posts and add some stuff to the front page with a huge effort against the big, red running eyes and headache and fibre.

Oh, almost forget, 10X Kreso 4 the heads up ;)
