Nokia Local Sensor
Never Forget Or Lose Your Stuff Again!

Nokia Local Senso

Nokia Locate Sensor has just made its debut at CES 2009. Nokia Locate Sensor is another Nokia research concept that gives you a glimpse of the future today with communications experiences immersed in both human nature and the environment we live in.

Who of us hasn't fallen victim to the malicious ways of forgetfulness? Tired of losing your keys, wallet, glasses, or briefcases? Why not save time looking for lost items and lose the stress instead?

Well, the folks over at Nokia Research Center have introduced Nokia Locate Sensor, a new service in prototype stage designed to help ensure you never lose anything. Using Local Sensor you can locate people, objects and places nearby, and navigate to them with your mobile device.

Local Sensor uses a direct wireless connection between devices, tags and positioning stations, and also works indoors where GPS is not available. It transmits a simple but strong signal with range of up to 100 meters, and as it doesn’t use GPS it can be used indoors, it works through walls and floors without huge battery computation.

Nokia Local Sensor allows you to locate lost items quickly and easily and it consist of two parts, the monitoring application on your phone and the receiver adheres to your keys or maybe to your priceless possession, briefcases, purses, or any other cherished personal items.

The possibilities are endless, for example it could be used by parents to easily monitor the location of their children and loved ones when they're out at the neighborhood park, airport or even when they're just playing in the backyard.

So basically, all you have to do is to simply attach a wireless locator to each of those easy-to-lose things as your keys or wallet, and if you drop anything or it gets nicked from your pocket the accompanying Nokia Locate Sensor application directs you to your missing possessions quickly and easily and is even capable to tells you how far away it is!

With this little gadget attached on your keys you’ll never lose your mind if you can’t find your keys again. The monitoring applications on your phone application is designed to automatically alert you if you drop something and will sniff them out.

The little green sensor can be attached and modified to be fixed to any sort of item you can think of, and the software supports up to 100 items. The battery powered tag runs for up to 18 months, but if the tag is made bigger it could accommodate a bigger battery and longer life.

Nokia Locate Sensor also can be tweaked to work the opposite way round, so if you have a sensor in your pocket you can set it so that if your phone is lost or goes further that say 3 meters from you, it immediately disables the handset and re-enables it when it reenters your close vicinity.

Unfortunately there’s no official word if Nokia Locate Sensor will leave Nokia Research Center and become a real product, but if this succeeds, I’m pretty sure you'll never lose anything again.
