Dell's Upcoming Smartphone Will Be Powered By Symbian Or Android
There have been persistent rumors that Dell is working on some kind of a Smartphone but today folks over at Engadget heating up the whole story with statement that company is working on a S60 or/and Android based Smartphone and launch is expected as early as next month at Mobile World Congress!
Dell was a major force in the PC industry from 1997 through 2004 and although Dell lost its lead in PC market share in the recent years it still leads U.S. market where Dell had sold more computers than any company in the world in the last eight years.
Dell is a big player and the development of smartphones for all big players seems like the next logical step, the Smartphone market is a way too big to ignore it so I am not surprised at all that Dell is working on a Smartphone.
Few moths ago in an interview with GigaOM’s Om Malik, Dell’s founder and chief executive officer Michael Dell has said that they are certainly looking at the whole smartphone category, but we wouldn’t expect anything anytime soon.
On a question about the Google’s Android, Symbian and Microsoft Mobile OS he added: “What you’ve got [are] industry-standard platforms upon which applications are being built and ecosystems are being created, and that kind of building-block architecture gives us all sorts of opportunities.”
Ona direcvt question about Android and Symbian as possible platforms for their handsets he said: “We’re not ready to publicly disclose our plans there…we’re kind of working on that.”
Folks over at claims that most of the Dell clerks at the Adamo event were carrying G1s, while the “Dell's director of consumer products was super-quick to pull out a Nokia E71 and talks how well-built it was compared to other devices when we asked him where the Adamo line would be positioned”
Well, I believe Dell Inc. will release the Smartphone during this year, I don’t know when and which mobile OS it will run but I truly hope it will be well build and well equipped Symbian handset!!
