The Best Of The Best The Morph Concept Awarded By The Red Dot
The Morph concept has been awarded the red dot: design concept – an internationally recognized prize for highest quality design.
The red dot design award ceremony was held in Singapore on November 28. The red dot design award is one of the most renowned design competitions in the world.
In this year’s competition there were a total of 1,906 entries, out of which 21 concepts (including the Morph concept) were awarded the red dot: best of the best.
The Morph concept, launched alongside the Museum of Modern Art “Design and The Elastic Mind” exhibition last winter, showcases some revolutionary leaps being explored by Nokia Research Center (NRC) in collaboration with the Cambridge Nanoscience Centre (United Kingdom).
The concept represents an opportunity to develop a completely new generation of mobile devices which will pave the way for new forms of mobile communications.
Morph is a concept that demonstrates how future mobile devices might be stretchable and flexible, allowing the user to transform their mobile device into radically different shapes.
It demonstrates the ultimate functionality that nano technology might be capable of delivering: flexible materials, transparent electronics and self-cleaning surfaces. Dr. Bob Iannucci, Chief Technology Officer, Nokia, commented: "Nokia Research Center is looking at ways to reinvent the form and function of mobile devices; the Morph concept shows what might be possible".
Professor Mark Welland, Head of the Department of Engineering's Nanoscience Group at the University of Cambridge and University Director of Nokia Cambridge collaboration added: "Developing the Morph concept with Nokia has provided us with a focus that is both artistically inspirational but, more importantly, sets the technology agenda for our joint nanoscience research that will stimulate our future work together."
