Review: The Zeemote JS1
Bluetooth Game Controller for S60 Devices
The company "Zeemote" kindly supplied us with a demo device of their brandnew wireless Bluetooth Game Controller named "Zeemote JS1" which was first introduced on the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany a short while ago.
Already available for some time as bundles with Sony Ericsson Phones in in Spain and the Netherlands, it became currently also available in Germany and is being bundled with the Nokia N85 there. Regrettably it is not yet available as a standalone device.
For some, it will be the ultimate portable gaming device – for others it will probably be totally useless.
But also for business users there is a wide range of applications which makes the Zeemote a useful device. Personally, I would call myself "a bit geeky", so i was pretty interested in the Zeemote and very happy to be able to get my hands on the pre-release version.

Unfortunately, at the time being tested, the Zeemote JS1 was not yet supported by all Symbian and N-Gage games, so Zeemote also put in some games to test. For a complete list of other supported JAVA-Games and N-Gage Games please check the Zeemotes website.

Pairing your mobile phone with the Zeemote is just as easy as with any other Bluetooth-device. Once paired the Zeemote supports a joystick for control of ingame movements and Symbian menu navigation as well as 3 ingame softkeys (A, B & C) and a menu key. Ingame control works like a charm, but in my eyes the joystick is adjusted just a bit too fine – which makes it considerably hard to navigate through menus and such where you need very exact navigation control.
Introducing the Zeemote JS1
Interestingly, the Zeemote was just meant to control games on the previously introduced bundles with Sony Ericsson phone in the Netherlands and Spain. For the Symbian platform, the device comes with a software solution named "Zeekey" which makes it also possible to use the Zeemote for virtually any function on a Symbian S60 3 rd edition phone.

This extension is what makes the Zeemote also very interesting for any business user – imagine a classical presentation situation: from now on you just plug your device to a beamer, show a powerpoint presentation, just navigate through it with the Zeemote and deliver a free-hands presentation to your audience! Surfing the web or presenting software are other possible operative ranges where the Zeemote comes in pretty handy.
As a conclusion, the Zeemote is a very interesting device which makes mobile gaming even more interesting and appealing, but it also has its use for the ordinary user. However it would even be more attractive if it would also be available as a standalone device that could then be connected to any Symbian S60 3 rd Edition phone.
