+ VIDEO: Nokia N96 And The Optoma's Pocket Projector

17 November 2008

Pico Fun With Nokia N96
And The World's Smallest Pocket Projector

Optoma Pico Projector

Do you remember Optoma's first Pico projector based on the DLP Pico chipset that I written about several moths ago?

Projector that is smaller than most of the Smartphones, projector that fits in your palm and is the ideal companion with S60 devices equipped with the TV out such as Nokia N95 or Nokia N96 or Nokia N82?!?

Connected to any of motioned S60 devices, the four-ounce Optoma Pico projector allows users to share photos and videos, and enjoy a far better visual experience with an image that is up to 100 times larger than the small screen of the source device.

This cool gadget scales a mobile phone screen up to 10-20 inches so you can enjoy the phone's mobile contents - photo, video, etc. - not just through the phone's 3-inch screen but by viewing the portable large screen. It’s enough to point the micro projector at any even vaguely flat surface a wall, someone’s back, the palm of your hand and it’s a movie time.

Miniature projectors embedded in our cell phones, handheld game consoles and other personal electronics appear very likely to play a major role in the future of information display but none have materialized it onto the market although all major brands intensively working on projector equipped phones lately.

Here comes the Optoma Pico projector and actually what is the best thing about this little projector is fact that is available now and there is no need to wait few months or years to get it and to break the barrier of small, ~2 or ~3 inch displays that are common to smartphones nowadays!

Yes you read it right, Derrick Welsh from Forum Nokia Blogs has posted quite an interesting and fun demo that shows Optoma’s projector and Nokia N96 in action!! "The Pico Projector is the next step in sharing visual media for today's ultra-mobile consumers. Fitting in your shirt pocket, the Pico Projector can display pictures, videos or any content from a mobile media player or smart phone" says Jon Grodem, director of Product Management for Optoma. "Optoma's Pico breaks free from the limitations of the 2 or 3 inch displays found on today's mobile devices. This category defining projector creates a new benchmark for sharing content-on-the-go."

Optoma's Pico Projector utilizes the latest LED technology resulting in a colorful and vivid image. The small and powerful unit is based upon DLP technology assuring the highest possible contrast.

"The handheld Pico projector represents the latest advancement in the mobile device display industry. We view the Pico projector as a completely new and exciting market – one which dramatically expands the reach and potential of projection products into new end user applications," says Dr. William Coggshall, founder and president of Pacific Media Associates.
