+ Mobile Web Server 1.5 Beta Has Been Released!

19 November 2008

Mobile Web Server
New Major Update Available

Mobile Web ServerMobile Web Server 1.5 beta has been released and brings lot of improvements including, easier access rights management, intelligent network handling, significantly improved RSS feeds for effortless sharing and many bug fixes and improvements!

The new RSS feed is really something to check out. With that you can share content, contextual information or even your own custom feed if you have one.

Because the feed is put together and served via the mymobilesite.net service, it is always available even when your site is down.

You will find the feed by logging in at mymobilesite.net, and navigating to Edit account -> Feed settings. There are some defaults set up, but you should tune it to your liking.

Mobile Web Server is a concept developed by Nokia Research Center. The server available from mymobilesite.net is a next step towards an easy-to-use and easy-to-develop system.

The concept provides, for example, a Nokia gateway infrastructure for HTTP connectivity to devices; an easy registration of your own domain name; a Nokia signed MWS S60 software download; ready-made content that allows users to easily use, create content, and browse it immediately after setup; a web cache; an SSL connection security; and an authentication system for accessing the terminal content.

1) Your carrier might charge you for data traffic caused by Mobile Web Server. Consult your carrier about data transfer fees. Mobile Web Server includes a data transfer counter to estimate your Mobile Web Server data traffic amount.

The mobile server is open for HTML content and application development with Apache technology and Python (PSP pages) programming environment. Now there is an also possibility to add own custom (Python) applications into the MWS framework.

This means that your own application can utilize the security framework and be shown in the MWS menu just like the other apps. Head over to MWS wiki to read the tutorial and to get the example applications. There are also a couple of new REST APIs created for Calendar (checking calendar data and making new requests).
