Mozilla CEO John Lilly: Firefox Mobile Alpha Within Few Weeks
As with any other upcoming software, information and details tend to be a bit sketchy and confusing and mobile version of the Firefox browser isn’t excluded from this rule!
There are a lot of contradictory rumors and this article is just another attempt to cut through all of them and let you know what you can expect from the Firefox mobile and the most importantly when a fully baked browser will hit mobile devices!?
Right now there is a lot of contradictory information regarding when the mobile version of the Firefox browser will be released and how it will looks like!
Chairman of Mozilla Corporation, Mitchell Baker has set goals for the development of the open source project over the next two years and confirmed again Mozilla's plans to develop a Firefox mobile but she said that we shouldn’t expect the mobile version (recently codenamed as 'Fennec') of the Firefox browser anytime soon, definitely not before the early by 2010!?
Now, just a few weeks after, despite Mitchell Baker report that Mozilla is still a couple of years away from completing a Firefox browser for mobile devices, the new Chief Executive of Mozilla, John Lilly suggested otherwise and revealed in an interview that the company is ready to release Firefox Mobile saying that "we'll see some alphas in a few weeks."
Although it sounds kind of cliché but Firefox mobile is based on the same core as the Firefox 3 and will 'bring a true web experience to mobile phones and other mobile devices' according to the foundation. It will also allow users to easy migrate user data like cookies, bookmarks, forms data, and various other information from their desktop browsers to their mobile devices.
From other hand the desktop version of the Firefox has lot of users and most of them are so called power users and when it comes time to choose a mobile browser they’ll probably choose the portable version of its favorite desktop solution?
To be completely honest with you, I am an Internet Explorer user. As a matter of fact I have been since I started browsing the Internet, and I have found no compelling reason to change. I am using the Avant and Maxton shell that puts the Firefox to shame but situation with mobile browser is a bit different and I would like to test it as soon as possible.
