+ Upcoming: Hi-N-Bye - Accelerometer based gesture control

05 May 2008

Keynetik's Hi-N-Bye
Gesture Controlled Phone Calls

Keynetik's Hi-N-ByeNo, I haven't disappeared from the face of the earth :] the main reason behind the lack of activity for the last couple days, I've been very busy but I won't bore you with that and I hope that it will be a little bit less hectic in upcoming days.

Anyway, I’m back with some really interesting application to show. There is no doubt that we are living in the era of migration from keyboards, joysticks and switches to touch-sensitive surfaces and even more impressive touchless gestures controlled systems.

Just a few years ago, motion based applications and controls were merely an enthusiastic dream and science fiction but today we’re much closer to the Star Trek technology than we have expected. Now you can shake, tilt, flip and roll your phone to take control over the basic functions, to play games and even to control your PC and execute commands without using the keyboard, mouse, menus or toolbars.

Although motion based technology has some downsides and is still in the early stages of development it continues to amaze with a truly endless possibilities. I like technology, I like innovations and finally I like developers that change the way we interact with hardware and Keynetik team is definitely on the right way. After the very successful Rock ‘n’ Scroll application they truly surprised me with their latest product that goes beyond the multi-touch by tracking the hand motion in 3D space and brings accelerometer based gestures control to Symbian phones.

There are two basic techniques for capturing the gestures, camera based gesture controls and motion sensor based controls. Hi-N-Bye falls into second category and use the accelerometer to translate the gestures to phone friendly commands and takes the full control over the call system.

Same as the shake master it brings impressive list of features packed into application which offers all you need to take the control over your calls.

Gene working on the video demonstration that should be available in next few days and explain application in details but for now here is the impressive list of features just to let you know what you can expect.

With Hi-N-Bye you can:

  • Accept an incoming call
  • Hang up (end) current conversation
  • Send the incoming call to voice mail (reject call)
  • Enable/disable loudspeaker
  • Put active call on hold
  • Second call options:
    • If you have a second incoming call you can use push or shake gesture (depends on the settings) to answer the call.
    • You can also use the same gestures to reject, and swap calls

I’ll intensively test application in upcoming days and keep you informed about progress in application development and will let you know once when it will be ready for public. So far I can say that application has the great potential and for example allows you to accept or reject call on the very intuitive way, it simply let you control your phone smoother, faster, and easier and if nothing else you’ll definitely impress your friends :]

More to come shortly ;)
