+ Update: CorePlayer Mobile v1.2.4 now with flv support!

10 May 2008

CorePlayer Mobile adds support for Flash files

CorePlayer Mobile

CoreCodec Inc, a leading provider of digital media technology, has released an update for the mobile version of its very popular CorePlayer to address some issues and bring some new features and improve functionality.

This update brings support for Adobe Flash multimedia container files (typically .flv and .f4v files) encoded in flash video. If you have video saved to your memory card it will now be able to play them back.

Native support for flash within webpages is still a ways off, but is planned for a future release. The update also includes some bugfixes and optimizations for the recently introduced YouTube support and improved RSS feed functions.

CorePlayer Mobile v1.2.4 Edition is ready and you can get it for about $29.90 Symbian S60 3rd edition devices. Although price is a little bit high for one mobile application most of people that I know claims that it's well worth the purchase price.

All Symbian versions now feature theeir unique YouTube Browser and actually CorePlayer on Symbian devices is much 'happier' now on the platform and they are promissing that it will be even more so with each upcoming release.

FLASH SUPPORT INFO

First.... Thank you Adobe!! Your customers and our community appreciate the fact that you looked at what was best for them and Opening up the SWF and FLV specs goes a long way at spreading the Flash love even more so then ever before.

LIMITATIONS

  • At this time we will only support the Flash Container (FLV)
  • Don't look for CorePlayer to play the files 'within' a webpage (it will however play linked FLV content and open CorePlayer). Embbedded support will come by early next year with v2.0 of CorePlayerX/CorePlayer API integration.
  • We will not support ON2's VP6 as an embedded video codec anytime soon if at all. If the demand warrants it we will look into the possibilities but till then...

SWF

  • This is where we are taking a stand back approach. We will likely include SWF support at some point... but are looking at the options of either using the upcoming Adobe Runtime and or.... creating our own from scratch via the newly released SWF specs.
