Symbian wins Awards for Enterprise in the areas
of Innovation and international Trade!

WeatherBugSymbian Limited, the market leader in open operating systems for mobile phones, has received two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in the fields of Innovation and International Trade.

The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation 2008 recognizes Symbian as a leader in mobile technology. Innovation is at the heart of Symbian's company values and is key to helping its customers - the world's leading handset manufacturers - create the most compelling and differentiated mobile phones across all of their market segments.

With over 220 different Symbian phone models shipped to date, Symbian has powered some of the most advanced mobile devices in the world since its inception in 1998. This award recognises the innovation and commitment to excellence of Symbian engineers and also that of its thriving ecosystem of thousands of developers.

The second Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade 2008 acknowledges the company’s success in doubling its exports over the last three years to £194.3m globally to end 2007. Exports represent the vast majority of its sales and are the motivation behind Symbian’s presence in China, Japan, India, Korea, the UK and the US. Symbian currently holds 7% of the global mobile phone market with over 188 million Symbian mobile phones shipped to date by eight customers.

“We’re a British success story and thrilled to be recognised by the Queen’s Awards,” said Nigel Clifford, CEO, Symbian. “As the global leader in our field, including in the most advanced Asian mobile markets, Symbian is a British technology company having an impact on the world stage. We’re proud of the achievements recognised by these awards and very excited about what the future holds for us in this dynamic industry.”
