Touchless Control Interface for S60 Devices

Beyond Multi-TouchI've just found a quite interesting video that shows Nokia N95 controlled by the hand gestures. The core technology is based on the image processing and algorithms that utilize the phone camera together with user hand movements and translate them to commands that control the UI.

Although it is aimed for gaming it is fully capable to control anything, music player, gallery, actually limit of imagination is the only barrier to what this technology can do and it is even more promising the accelerometer based controlling.

This form of giving commands to phone would make many situations safer and more pleasant than they are today. Software is fully capable to process the controls trough the back main camera and through the front VGA video call cam which allows controlling the phone from the both sides and offers lot of possibilities and an intuitive interface for various mobile games and applications.

A whole new generation of video games could be created if the technology involved were able to identify and interpret complex human gestures on the right way in the real time.

Gestures enable people to communicate without the need for spoken words and try to imagine how useful it would be if this type of communication were also possible between humans and mobile devices? Undoubtedly there are numerous possibilities and I just hope that whole concept is ready for implementation on the actually phones equipped with camera sensors.
