At the OSiM, world's leading conference on open source and Linux for mobile devices in San Francisco, Nokia’s "Nokia's open source director", Ari Jaaksi share his thoughts on open source in the more than a 20 minutes long audio podcast

Check out Nokia’s thoughts on what mobile users need and how open source can help is the Linux and open source ready to meet the needs of mass-market in the words of Ari Jaaksi, Vice President, Software, Nokia.

Ari Jaaksi says that Nokia main role in the future is to bring to bring open source to mainstream consumer electronics over by creating a bridge between open source projects and consumers.

This means that they must provide enjoyable quality devices and services that provide rich experiences.

In order to do so, they have to tap into innovation and creativity. Nokia must also manage operations and cost by utilizing reusable assets, agile methods, and shared development. In all of this, the right use of open source can be a huge asset.

Nokia shipping Linux and open source based Internet Tablets, S60 phones have many important open source components and they are totally open to the new features, and lot of open source technologies are used in the building new Nokia services.

Nokia participates in many open source activities, such as Gnome, Debian, Linux, Mozilla and WebKit browsers and so forth. They are planing to increase our involvement there and believe that open source is a key strategy to create exciting devices and services.
