+ Freeware: Speaker - What you want your phone to say??

17 February 2008

Speaker 1.03 Beta
What you want your phone to say??

SpeakerSpeaker is another cool application that came from my friend Manu, developer of the very popular ShakeLock application.

Same as ShakeLock, Speaker is developed in the Python that is undoubtedly the tool No1 for the freeware developers lately.

Python folder on my phone is full of the useful freeware applications and I should create few subfolders to sort and organize all application that I have in there.

Actually I seriously thinking about updating our download section that is pretty outdated nowadays, my HDD is full of freeware applications that I would like to share with you. Just hope that I’ll get some spare time soon and setup the brand new download section as the benefit for all of you that prefers the useful freeware applications instead of the expensive commercial soft.

Anyway, speaking of the Speaker, it is the very simple Python application that uses your S60 3rd Edition phone's built-in text to speech-engine to read out certain information like: Time, Date, IMEI number, etc.

In the latest version it also speaks out the number of missed calls you had today. Application is still in the early beta stage and Manu currently working on some other useful stuff for speaker to say (like No of unread messages, last missed call etc). Speaker v1.03 is the first public version and it brings some minor improvements in UI and also features a nice SVG iconthat is my work by the way ;)

Also it has an interesting Speak and Exit function, this feature of Speaker is useful when you want to run speaker with minimal footprint on phone. If this mode is enabled Speaker will speak/do an action (from the list of speak/actions above) and then exit the application and will not run in background and consume memory or battery.

Note: To stop Speaker from exiting you can PRESS ANY KEY when the main screen is visible (for about 1 sec) , which will then make the application to stay and the application will not exit

Speaker Speaker

Super shortcut mode acts as a shortcut to a list of applications (Messaging, Gallery, Calendar, Camera, Web) . This works only for the Speak and exit mode , thus when Speaker is started in Super shortcut + Speak and exit mode then it will perform the default action and then launch the application specified in the super shortcut.

Thus you can easily set Speaker to be any of your left or right key buttons and assign Super shortcut to another application which speaker will launch.

Speaker Speaker

If there is something else you want speaker to say, you guys can request over at forum section and will probably include it in the next release. It can be anything like Last missed call no, Read Last SMS, Number of appointments today or anything like that. The most requested ones (and sensible ones) will be considered for implementation.

That’s all for now, any suggestion is more than welcome, C U over at forum section ;)

The application is developed in Python and of course requires the latest version for proper work. As usually, more info over at our forum section ;o)
