+ PC freeware: Nokia Text Messenger beta launched

20 February 2008

Nokia Text Messenger beta launched
(Windows Vista gadget)

Nokia Text Messenger

After the recently announced Nokia PC Phone and My Mobile Site Widgets there is another cool stuff from Nokia Beta Labs that integrate the mobile phone into the user’s "desktop experience" and utilize the current coexistence of PC and mobile phone on the new level.

Nokia Text Messenger is just a small Windows Vista gadget, with which you can view your latest SMS messages, and send new ones, conveniently from your Windows Vista sidebar.

It should work on all Nokia devices compatible with PC Suite, just be sure that you have latest version installed (6.85).

The application fetches you the latest text messages from your connected Nokia device. Naturally, the latest messages are displayed first.

A gadget for Windows Vista, Nokia Text Messenger comes in two different sizes. If you want to place the application in your Windows Sidebar, you can opt for Nokia Text Messenger in a smaller size. The sidebar gadget lets you view three text messages at a time.

If you want Nokia Text Messenger in a slightly larger size, you can have it floating freely on your desktop. In this case, text messages can be browsed in groups of five.

That’s all for now, I am not a huge fan of Windows Vista and I can’t test it at the moment because I am running XP on my desk but I’ll test it afternoon on my brand new Asus laptop that came with preinstalled Windows Vista that I am still trying to get to use it.

Installation instructions
  1. When the installation is complete, right-click the Windows Sidebar area. Then, select Add Gadgets from the menu that appears, and a window with all the available gadget applications opens.
  2. Double-click Nokia Text Messenger to add the gadget to Windows Sidebar.

Note: If you want to have Nokia Text Messenger in a slightly larger size, drag the application from Windows Sidebar to the main desktop area.
