Nokia N82 Trial - First Impressions!
 I had a nice little Surprise from WOM World, a package in very well known Sizes and it turned out to be a Device, which i was pretty excited to trial: The new Photography Machine called Nokia N82, same Techniques as the Nokia N95, but Candybar Style ..
After 2 Days using it, i can tell some first Impressions, so far i can tell that the Device has surely some Pro's, compared to my Nokia N95, but it sure as hell has some Contra's too, some unneeded Downsides, which I’m surely gonna tell in the next Time .. But so far here's a little Overview on the Nokia N82-1...
Overall Looks: Out of the Box, the N82 looks stylish, no Doubt about that. The Keys are different, not my Style, but still okay. The whole Front of the Device comes in a silver, glossy Finish, another stylish Feature, but the first Word coming up in my Mind: FINGERPRINTS! This Thing is a complete Fingerprint-Magnet, and not easy to clean, due to the small Keys.
The Back of the Phone comes with a glossy, colored Back-Cover. I don't like this Kind of Finish, the Phone is extremely slippery, so better have dry Hands.. I wouldn't mind making some Drawbacks on the Style and Design, for a better Grip honestly ..
Keypad: Let's have a closer Look on the Outside .. The N82 is the first Nokia, that features this tiny little Keys, the first few Messages has been a Pain in the *ss, it just took so long, i always pressed 2 Buttons at once.
BUT i must say, after a short Time, i got used to it and now I’m typing as fast as on my Nokia N95! I didn't expect this, i thought it won't be that easy.
D-Pad: As much Joy as i have now with the Keypad, I'm angered with the D-Pad!! Marty already stated in his excellent N82 Review that Nokia has done a terrible Job on the D-Pad and i have to confirm this. The Green and Red Keys are on the Side of the D-Pad and good to press, but everything starts with the Multimedia Menu!
This Button is omn the right Side, BETWEEN C-Key and the right Soft key. The Designer must have been on Drugs doing it, it's impossible to hit the Soft key, you always have to pull your Finger OVER the MMM-Button ..
Another Fact, that Nokia didn't think much while designing this D-Pad is the missing Pencil-Key. Don't get me wrong, Copy/Paste etc is still available, but it just doesn't feel right. I'm not very pleased with that, and i just hope this won't be the Future for upcoming Nokia Devices!
Plug-In's: Nokia has positioned the 3,5mm Headphone Plug-In on Top of the Phone. Finally, after they did quite a Mistake on the N95, as they positioned it on the Side of it. It's so much easier to put the N82 in a Pocket and listen to your favorite Tunes. Also a very handsome Solution for TV-Out
The Charging Hole is positioned on the left Side of the Phone, how in the Hell can you hold your Phone in a Car? Or while typing with 2 Hands? .. Not very useful, the Bottom of the Phone is completely free, so why not put it there instead??
Stereo Speakers: The Nokia N82 features Stereo Speakers, as some Devices before, but this Time they are positioned way better, BOTH Speakers are residing on Top. This gives me personally a better Feeling while watching Movies on the Device. Good Job there ..
The Camera: 5 Megapixel, Carl Zeiss Optics, Xenon Flash - how could you not love this Beast? I think on normal Light Conditions, N95 and N82 are pretty much the Same, but the real Difference comes at Night, poor Light Conditions is the Home of the Nokia N82, where the Xenon Flash powers everything out, I’ve seen so far!
It's just amazing, the Differences are stunning. Photo Comparisons coming soon! Video Recording at Resolutions up to VGA (640 x 480 pixels) at 30 Frames per Second completes this fully loaded Camera Pleasure.
As you can see, the N82 has some good Points, but some bad Points as well. I'll try to get closer on some Features, so keep your Eye on Symbian Freak in the next Weeks!
