iAnywhere adds Symbian support!

iAnywhereiAnywhere, the mobile software subsidiary of database vendor Sybase, has added support for the Symbian smart phone OS in the new release of its M-Business Anywhere platform for app mobilization.

"We already supported Windows Mobile 5, Win32, and Palm OS, and now we've added Symbian, as well as WM6 and Vista," said Alison Henderson, UK operations director for the Dublin, California-based company.

iAnywhere has three distinct product sets. M-Business Anywhere is the app mobilization platform, extending enterprise apps like CRM and sales and field force automation out to mobile devices in the field; Afaria is for mobile device management (MDM), doing software distribution and security; and OneBridge is a mobile email platform. All three are underpinned by the company's SQLAnywhere small-footprint mobile database and Mobilink synchronization technology.

The new release of M-Business Anywhere, version 5.7, also includes some new features fir the platform's Mobile Inspection tool, introduced last year as a set of templates for the rapid building of forms to use on mobile devices. The ISV announced that the tool now has the ability to integrate GPS information and photographs into forms for relaying back to a customer's HQ.

"This is particularly relevant in the kind of field service organizations that are major customers of M-Business Anywhere, where you may need to take a photo of the item inspected and give details of exactly where it is located," said Henderson.
