As you may have already know Nokia N95 features Accelerometer (also known as Level or Tilt Sensor) but until now it wasn’t used that much, actually it was used only by the camera application to rotate pictures in the right position as I have pointed in my N95 review.
Probably pushed by the iPhone, Nokia has released the necessary API and permission to use the accelerometer isn’t camera exclusive any more.
You see, I just love people who changes the way we use technology and takes the more from the hardware. The mighty Mr. Samir is definitely one of them, very creative and very talented French developer strikes back with another freeware application. After recently announced RotateMe and FLV player application the famous and long awaited NokMote application is released for the closed group of donators and step closer to the public.
If you have been living in the cave for the last few weeks, permit me to shortly inform you that Nokmote allow you to control your N95 by detecting the movement of the phone through motion sensing, something like the Nintendo Wiimote. Actually application uses the N95 Accelerometer Plug-in package to hook into the accelerometer and to emulate the 5-way d-pad and enables controlling the UI by moving the phone.
*Here is a second video of Nokmote used with some games
Although application is aimed for controlling games and looks simply awesome with the System Rush game, it also can be used for controlling the UI and 3rd party applications as well.
In a matter of fact, controlling a game on a mobile phone is often a bigger challenge than the game itself and Nokmote brings a new dimension to gaming and offer experience close to the Nintendo Wiimote, well done Samir, great work, just hope it will be released for public soon alltogether with ShutUp.
