Invention: Innovative Nokia clamshell Patent!

22 November 2007

Interesting Nokia Clamshell Concept!?

Interesting Nokia Slider Concept

I told you that those guys over at Nokia Research Labs are very busy and pretty productive nowadays.

Lot of interesting concepts and I’ve just found another one, hope that some of all these patents will reach the mass production because some of the sounds extremely promising.

Just like the patent spotted yesterday this also might be related to the long awaited S60 touch UI.

Sure not expecting to see something similar with the first wave of the Touch based devices but in few years, who knows.. . .

This Nokia clamshell phone has two screens and one of them can be used either as a second display or a touchscreen to control the device. Nothing innovative here by the way, this concept is already seen and I even wrote about, but the innovation is that phone switches between different modes is automatic and depends on the opening angle.

If the device is opened at an angle of up to 160 degrees, bottom display is in a touchscreen mode. Pull it further to 180 degrees and you get an extended display on both parts.
