+ Nokia ’s Symbian S60 platform security has been hacked?

28 October 2007

Goodbye S60 Platform Security!???
What Are The Implications?!!!

HackingProbably the most famous security system has been broken and proofs the truth that there is no perfect protection and there are no perfect solutions because we just don't live in a perfect world.

I guess that everything about the “new” Symbian’s platform security is very well known and already discussed numerous times here on SF, especially over at our forum section, so I’ll not repeat it again.

This obnoxious concept was introduced by Nokia few years ago with its first S60 3 rd edition phone (N80) and it is based on the idea that nobody gets access to those data caged directories which indeed improves the security but at the same time it makes the 3rd edition as the modding unfriendly environment because it is impossible to access and tweak system files.

Although, Nokia which develops the S60 phone platform said some time ago that it's possible that attackers could break into S60-based phones and hack their protection it has come as a big shock not only to me but to the majority, actually to everyone around, mainly because we didn’t though that this famous and unbreakable security system can be hacked that easily.

There are numerous implications, effects, impacts and opportunities after the Manko from over at Symbaali has demonstrated how we can access protected folders on the phone.

Now I am really curious what the next Nokia move is and how they can deal with this problem?
