Quake for S60 3rd edition FP1
I'd give it a description and more info, but the title of this story says it all.
The Quake S60 is the S60 port of the famous first-person shooter computer game that was released by id Software on June 22, 1996 and it was the first game in the popular Quake series of computer and video games.
Quake popularized several major advances in the 3D game genre: it uses 3-dimensional models for players and monsters instead of 2-dimensional sprites; and the world in which play takes place is created as a true 3-dimensional space, rather than a 2-dimensional map with height information which is then rendered to 3D.
Some previous 3D games, such as Duke Nukem 3D, Doom and Wolfenstein 3D (sometimes called 2.5D games) used a restricted-view mathematical trick when rendering their 3-dimensional view. This allowed a true 3D view, but only when looking straight-ahead (you can tell the difference by tilting up and down in Duke Nukem 3D, which is achieved by distorting the straight-ahead view rather than really rotating the view.)
The most interesting about this soft is fact that soft is optimized for the newer S60 phones with feature pack 1 and arm v6 processors. Las but not the less important, there is a version optimized for OMAP 2420 powered pones (FP1 is also necessary) which have a FPU (floating point unit), the Nokia N95 actually.
So, to sum up, its great to see another game optimized to get the most from the great OMAP chipset and its 3D hardware accelerated graphic, I hope this is just a begging and that just released new N-gage platform will brings more games optimized for this great hardware.

Required by both of the game versions

The installation packages on the download page require that you have also a datafile for the game on your memorycard. Both shareware and full version work. Please do not ask me where to find the datafiles.
- Find a suitable datafile (either shareware, or the full version form original PC version)
- Create "quake1" folder to the root of your memorycard
- If you have the full version, just copy the "ID1" directory to "quake1" directory.
- If you have only a shareware .pak file, create "ID1" folder to "quake1" directory and the copy the shareware pak-file there
- If you want to have cdaudio aswell, create "cdaudio" folder to the "quake1" folder. Then put the audio files as .mp3 to the "cdaudio" folder, remember to rename the files from 1.mp3 throught 10.mp3. I don't know what bitrate is the best, but I have used 256kbps and it has impact of 0.1 fps to the performance. If you do not have the required audio files, the background music is just not played.
- install the Symbian P.I.P.S. c-runtime library, and the install the suitable version of quake.
- If everyting is in place, you are ready to rock now.
Currently the keys are mapped as follows when ingame, in console you should be able to type by multitapping:
- LSK = return / jump
- RSK = esc
- Joystick = forward, back, left, right, fire
- * = look around (with joystick)
- # = sidestep
- c = change weapon
- green answer key = center view
- volume up/down = look around/sidestep
- everything else basicly shoots in the game.
Or the you could just use a bluetooth keyboard.....
