Nokia N93(i)
How to Get Rid of the Annoying Background Noise Caused by Zoom/Focus Motor!
I have just run some tests on my Nokia N93, and indeed I have found a way to eliminate the noise from the zoom motor. I believe for those that like the Nokia N93i with continuous auto focus, will appreciate this solution even more.
The solution is to use a Bluetooth headset! While video recording, instead of using the internal stereo microphone, it uses the mono microphone on the Bluetooth headset!
This indeed is a breakthrough as now; one can zoom or have autofocus on all the time for Nokia N93i users without listening to the horrible motor ticking sound.
Another advantage of using the Bluetooth headset for microphone pickup is the ability to do the reporter thing, where in noisy environments the microphone will pick up the reporters voice closer to the microphone! You will seem very professional indeed!
This solution does not come without its negatives. Firstly, you lose the stereo recording that the N93 and N93i offers, and also when zoom is operating, N93's latest firmware assumes the motor sounds are present and sort of muffles the sound (sound quality drop).
All in all the advantages here outweigh the disadvantages in a lot of circumstances. And to all N93i users, this could be the solution they have been greatly awaiting.
Here is a link to a small movie I made using my bluetooth headset as the microphone and using real time optical zoom!
