Destinator Delivers First GPS Navigation and Location-Based Services for Symbian Smartphones in North America

Destinator Technologies, the leading provider of personalized navigation software, announced today at the annual Consumer Electronics Show, the general availability of Destinator SP, GPS-based navigation software for Symbian Smartphones, such as the popular Nokia 6600 series phones, in North America. Destinator was the first navigation software company to debut this technology in September 2005 at DemoFall in Huntington Beach, Calif.

Now consumers in North America can enjoy on select mobile phones the same market-leading software acclaimed throughout the world on a variety of personal navigation devices (PNDs) and personal digital assistants (PDAs) and in-car systems.

“Destinator SP is the perfect solution for business travelers who don’t want to carry multiple devices and who are tired of printing out Mapquest or Yahoo Local maps,” said Jeff Kukowski, senior vice president of marketing for Destinator Technologies. “Destinator is the first to deliver on this promise through live navigation that is extremely easy to use and real-time access to traffic and weather conditions that could affect a given trip.”

The complete navigation solution enables Smartphones based on Symbian, one of the world’s leading smartphone platforms, to integrate live information with dynamic location updates for real-time navigation and decision-making.

Destinator SP is a complete navigation solution based on patented, award-winning software from Destinator Technologies, one of the leading navigation solutions in Europe for handheld navigation devices, according to research firm Canalys. The solution includes Destinator SP navigation software, Destinator SP maps of the United States and Canada, product manual, quick start guide, and license agreement. Destinator SP provides consumers with turn-by-turn navigation on Smartphones using real-time, location-based services and millions of built-in points of interest. Key features include:

• Consumer-friendly navigation experience. The intuitive interface is complemented by a choice of voices and three visual prompts – 3D view, top-down view, and schematic view – to support consumers’ preferences. Clear and concise audio prompts let users keep their eyes on the road, so there is no need for an additional automotive navigation device.
Superior onboard solution. Destinator SP offers information based on a user’s exact location at any time. Unlike other providers, Destinator SP receives this location via GPS receiver and subsequently is not by wireless providers’ coverage areas. It features high-speed route calculation and automatic re-planning of routes when a user deviates from his or her chosen route. Routes can be planned without a GPS signal, and there are no costs associated with route planning.

• Person-to-person navigation. Consumers can send their location to friends, family, and coworkers who also have smartphones running Destinator SP, and the system will automatically them to “destinate” to that location with their phones.
Complete phone integration. Standard phone operations function normally while navigating, but audio prompts are automatically suspended during telephone calls.
Up-to-date maps. Destinator SP includes the latest map data provided by Tele-Atlas to help ensure the accuracy with which consumers are able to navigate.

• Access to real-time traffic data. Smartphones running Destinator SP will be able to access the new myDestinator Traffic service also being launched at CES. Initially available for 20 US cities, myDestinator Traffic shows traffic on the current route while navigating, and it provides automatic rerouting to minimize delays. Traffic data is downloaded via a GPRS connection and can be configured for automatic updates at set intervals. (See myDestinator Traffic press release for more information.)
