Koffice 2.1 Released, Ups Nokia N900 And Microsoft Office Compatibility

Image

The KOffice team is very happy to announce version 2.1.0 of KOffice, 6 months after the platform release 2.0.0. This release brings general improvements in the maturity of the individual applications as well as a number of new features such as the ability to run on the Nokia N900.

The advantages of the clean and well-structured codebase have started to show. Despite a relatively limited developer group, there are a large number of improvements over 2.0. During the development of 2.1

Import and export of foreign file formats have been given an overhaul, and especially the import filters for Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt) and Word (.doc) have been much improved. This is mainly result of the work done for the Nokia n900 Office viewers.... .. .

Or is this just an announcement, with no software yet to the public?

Hey remember we can use google docs (documents, presentation and spreadsheets). Seems kinda advanced, but depends on your needs.

I wonder what is taking so long to get it to end users? I would LOVE to use this program. Why would they say it is ready and then not release it. I know the KDE project releases a lot of things in an unfinished state on the desktop(e.g. KDE 4.0), so why not on maemo. I would rather have one that is 1/2 working so we can submit bugs etc.
