If you ever spent ages on the phone explaining to your friends where you are than just released application from Birkett Enterprise could be very useful to you?

Phonelocator Text allows you to send (e.g. to your friends) an SMS message containing a link to your location (provided you have an internal or external GPS) quickly and easily. The SMS is also pre filled for you with the recipient’s name and the position so you don't need to write anything extra in the SMS message unless you choose to.

The receiver of the SMS message will be able to select your location and on compatible devices it will load the Maps application displaying your location. This could be a fun appli... .. .

Search by Voice Comes To
Google Maps 4.1 for S60 Devices

According to today’s announcement over at official Google maps blog, Symbian OS users can now use Google’s voice tool inside of Google Maps and search through the maps in the most natural way possible -- with your voice, making it easier than ever to look up places while on the go!

Search by voice lets you easily search for anything by simply speaking your search terms instead of typing them. Just open Google Maps, press your phone’s “call” button, and clearly speak your search term like “Park Plaza.”

Search by voice works with all the kinds of searches Google Maps for mobile already supports, including places, addresses (1600 Amphitheatre Parkway), specific bus... .. .

ITIS's Mobile Traffic Client Gets Major Update
Overhauled Interface & Support For 5th Edition

ITIS Holdings, a leading supplier of traffic and travel information, has released a major update for Mobile Traffic Client, its all-in-one traffic jam solution for the UK Market. The just released public build of the traffic client (1.20 build 5) brings numerous improvements including the full touch screen support (you can scroll smooth around the map for example) and major user interface overhaul.

New features also include an "alternative view" full screen pop-up window, which alerts you to the most relevant incident the application knows about, based on your heading and average speed for the last few minutes.

This was implemented as many of you said you couldn't see the small icons on the map, even when you had pulled to the side of the road to check the traffic conditions. ITIS dev team have managed to fix this by using full screen traffic icons and large fon... .. .

Just as the world itself can be viewed through many lenses, the latest mobile version of the Google Maps allows you to view many layers of information on your map at the same time. Google Maps for mobile Layers is available now for S60 devices for all countries where Google Maps for mobile is currently available and to get it on your phone just point your browser to m.google.com/maps

Layers make it easier and more useful to find and interact with geographic content, like public transit, traffic (with incidents!), local search results, Latitude friend locations, Wikipedia and more.

As you may well already know, Nokia has equipped their latest GPS enabled phones such as Nokia 6210 Navigator, Nokia 6220 Classic as well as Nokia N97 with digital compass that using Earth's magnetic field for improving accuracy of determining the azimuth.

The built-in digital compass is used to improve accuracy of determining the azimuth and helps the default mapping applications to automatically orients any map to the direction you are facing.

Google Maps Street Views On Nokia 5800!

Here is the little video demo of the latest Google Maps version for the S60 devices on the mighty Nokia 5800 made by folks from over at tnkgrl mobile blog. I'm sure most of you will agree with me when I say that there's no denying that Google Maps on the on the first S60 5th Edition device is a gorgeous application and thanks to the stunning graphic and intuitive touch user interface, it is also extremely easy to use!
