+ Theme of the Week 51: 'Aston Martin One-77' [5th Ed]

21 December 2008

Theme Of The Week:
'Aston Martin One-77' by Cinotrepus

Here is the SF 'Theme of the Week 51' and I'll take this opportunity to introduce the very first theme designed for S60 5th edition and fully compatible with Nokia 5800 and to invite all theme artists out there to start with porting their work to 5th edition and optimize skins for the great high-definition screens!

You see, although Nokia 5800 is theoretically backward compatible with themes developed for 3rd edition devices, because of the one annoying issue it is nearly impossible to use most of these themes on Nokia 5800.

The problem is that font color in the alphanumeric input mode is in same color as the background and you can’t see what are you typing in and this is really annoying issue considering the number of mistakes caused by using on screen keyboard.

Sure, there is an option in the menus to change the input color but unfortunately this is only applicable on the handwriting mode and the color of the font in the alphanumeric mode remains the same, invisible!

Actually whole situation with text input is pretty messy at the moment, as it works fine with one mode, full QWERTY keyboard for example but not with the classic alphanumeric keypad!? I have tested few themes developed especially for 5th edition and all of them suffer from the same problem unfortunately!

So, first of all, Nokia should fix the font color settings with the next firmware update and allows user to change the text color in all input modes which will make possible to use some of the best 3rd edition themes on 5th Ed devices without need for further optimization. From other hand theme Designers needs to find the way to fix this issue and I guess it will be easier with the latest Carbide version and two sampled themes issued by Nokia.

Anyway, 'Aston Martin One-77' is the only theme that I found so far that is fully compatible with Nokia 5800 and therefore it deserves to be promoted as the SF theme of the week 51. Unfortunately I can’t find who is author of this nice theme to give credits so if anyone knows please inform me, either by e-mail or PM.

Update: I can't belive I didn't knew it is Cinotrepus's theme :( sorry my friend and thank you for another great theme! Anyway, if you also like his work you can find more themes made by Cinotrepus's right here!

Note to Nokia: We need an update as soon as possible, software is pretty buggy and very frustrating sometimes.
